day 01
ARRIVE COCHIN

Arrive Cochin International Airport. You’ll be met and assisted with the transfer to your hotel. Evening enjoy a sunset cruise along the harbour to see the Chinese Fishing Nets. Overnight at the hotel.

day 02
ARRIVE COCHIN

This morning you’ll explore a sightseeing tour of Fort Cochin & Mattancherry. You could visit the local fish market, Chinese Fishing Nets and the St. Francis Church in Fort Cochin. Later proceed to Mattancherry to see the Dutch Palace and the Jewish Synagogue. In the evening witness Kathakali dance performance. Accompanied by a gong, drums and cymbals, Kathakali performers combine dance and theatre in a ritualistic portrayal of gods and demons. Overnight at the hotel.

COCHIN - THATTEKAD

Today after breakfast proceed to Thattekkad, by far the best birding spot in South India. In an area of approximately 25 square kilometres over 270 species have been recorded. There will also be night birding for the Nightjars, Frogmouths & Owls. Specialties here include Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl, Ceylon Frogmouth, Red Spurfowl, Bay Owl, Rufous Babbler, Blue-faced Malkoha, Brown-breasted, White-bellied Blue-tailed & Rusty-tailed Flycatchers, Grey-headed Bulbul and Wynad Laughing Thrush. Overnight at the Camp.

THATTEKAD

Thattekkad is ideal for seeing a good number of the endemics of the Western Ghats. The more difficult birds are Wynad Laughing Thrush and Grey-headed Bulbul. Proceed to Urullathany, at the other end of the reserve, for the Bulbul and Laughing Thrush. Also visit Edamalayar and the South side of the river for the owls, Streak-throated Woodpecker and Yellow-billed Babbler. Other notable species likely to be seen are Red Spurfowl, Ceylon Frogmouth, Blue-faced Malkoha, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Malabar Grey Hornbill, White-bellied and Heart-spotted Woodpeckers, Rufous Babbler, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, White-bellied Treepie and Black-throated Munia. Overnight at the Camp.

THATTEKAD - PERIYAR

Today after breakfast drive to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary; one of the best kept wildlife sanctuaries in South India. With over 320 bird species identified and a leading habitat for the Bengal Tiger, this sanctuary is an ideal destination of the tour. Periyar National Park contains a variety of habitats from grassland and dry deciduous forest to evergreen forest and riverside scrub. As a result of its wide range of habitats Periyar boasts an impressive list of resident species including about half the peninsular endemics and near-endemics. Evening enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Periyar to spot herds of Wild Elephants, Bisons, Sambar Deers, Nilgir Langurs, Malabar Giant Squirrels and variety of species of birds. With over 320 bird species identified and a leading habitat for the Bengal Tiger, this sanctuary is an ideal destination for any Wildlife enthusiasts. Overnight at the resort.

day 05
PERIYAR

Today will go treks, on jeeps and foot for wildlife and birding. We will spend the day searching here for some very special species including the secretive and wary Waynaad Laughingthrush. Other birds to look out for include White-rumped and Brown-backed Needletails, Oriental Honey-Buzzard, Black Eagle, the striking Black Baza, Pompadour Green and Mountain Imperial Pi¬geon, the migratory Chestnut-winged Cuckoo, Yellow-browed Bulbul, Gray-breasted Prinia, Thick-billed Warbler, Brown-cheeked Fulvetta, and the Asian Fairy Bluebird among other more widespread species. We may also sight the Woolly-necked Stork, Besra, Vernal Hanging Parrot, Jungle Owlet, White-rumped Spinetail, Black-naped Monarch and the Little Spiderhunter. Overnight at the resort.

day 06
PERIYAR - MUNNAR

After breakfast proceed to Munnar, a hill station situated at 1450m in the centre of a major tea-producing region via the Ghats to Khambam where we should sight the Large Grey Babbler, Common Babbler, Jungle Bush Quail and the Grey Fanco¬lin. We will proceed to Bodi Ghats en-route Munnar and stop over for sighting the rare Yellow Throated Bulbul, Indian Robin, Sirkeer Malkoha, Short Toed Snake Eagle, Bluefaced Malkoha and the Black eagle. We will reach Munnar by evening. Overnight at the resort.

day 07
MUNNAR

Today we will go birding in the sholas (high altitude montane forests) and grasslands for the Nilgiri Pipit, Painted Bush Quail, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Black & Orange Flycatcher, Nilgiri Flycatcher, Whitebellied Shortwing, Broadtailed Grassbird, Grasshopper Warbler. Overnight at the resort.

day 08
MUNNAR - COONOOR

We will start early in the morning birding at Chinnar (dry scrub forest) looking for White-bellied Drongo, Blue faced Malkoha, White-naped woodpecker, Blue-beared bee-eater, Sirkeer Malkoha, Jungle Bush Quail and the Yellow-legged Button quail. From here taking the long drive, we will reach Coonoor by evening. Coonoor - a hill station, at about 2,200m in the Nilgiri Hills - is where we will look for the endemic Nilgiri Laughing Thrush, White-bellied Shortwing, and Black-and-rufous, Rusty-tailed and Nilgiri Flycatchers. Overnight at the resort.

day 09
OOTY - MUDUMALAI

After birding at Coonoor, we will make our way to Mudumalai located at the foot of the of the Nilgiris hills. The terrain is varied with hills, valleys, ravines, watercourses and swamps, moist deciduous forests, dry deciduous forests and scrub forests and hence is ideal birding country. Should see Jerdon’s Bushlark, Sirkeer Malkoha, Indian Blue Robin, Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, White-bellied Minivet, Yellow-billed Babbler, White-bellied Woodpecker, Large Cuckooshrike, Banded-bay Cuckoo, Thick-billed Warbler, Malabar Lark and Painted Bush Quail. Overnight at the resort.

Day 10
MUDUMALAI - MYSORE

We will proceed towards Mysore birding along the way. Here we have a chance to look for any of the endemics missed especially the very rare Broadtailed Grassbird near the Bandipur Reserve. Also seen are the Paddyfield Pipit, Rich¬ards Pipit and the Ashcrowned Finch Lark. Overnight at hotel.

day 11
MYSORE

Early morning we will visit the famous heronry on an islands on the Cauvery River at the Ranganthittu Bird sanctuary. Rowing boat cruise enables view of Eurasian spoonbill, Black-crowned night heron, three species of Cormorant, River Tern and Thick Knee, and many others. Later return to Mysore. Overnight at the hotel.

MYSORE - BANGALORE

Late morning you will be transferred to Bangalore. Stay at your hotel for the night.

day 13
DEPART BANGALORE

Today in good time you will be transferred to Bangalore International Aiprort to board your return flight.
